Introducing Art
We provide a broad-based environment and scholarly framework for students to engage in the study of contemporary fine art practice.
Our students show imaginative responses to the world around them through curiosity and exploration. You will encounter a variety of individual and group learning situations that take place in world-class studios, workshops, other areas of the university and in the wider city.
Throughout your time with us, you will develop individual approaches to thinking and making, and learn how to communicate ideas about contemporary art.
You will become equipped with the skills to become critically reflective and innovative practitioners. These skills include:
- confidence
- knowledge
- expertise
- ambition
Students have the opportunity to participate in several field excursions, including an overseas trip in Year 3 that exposes students to international art events and exhibitions.
Through a series of exhibition and presentation opportunities, students build confidence in showing and discussing work to their peer group and public audiences.
We are fortunate to work closely with the Talbot Rice Gallery, situated within the University's central campus. This offers an exciting, curated programme of exhibitions and events with leading international artists and engagement opportunities for students.
